Agritourism Devin: Relaxation, Adventure, Fresh Food and True Northern Hospitality - Into Albania

Agritourism Devin: Relaxation, Adventure, Fresh Food and True Northern Hospitality

Located in one of the country’s most attractive touristic destinations, near Shala River and Valbona, this cozy guesthouse-farm offers an extremely rich, refreshing and delicious experience.

If on the lookout for unexpected adventures and singular experiences, these days you will most likely find them away from residential centers. In the midst of gorgeous natural scenery, Agritourism Devin is one of the most welcoming guesthouse-farms in the north of Albania. Here, treated by the fresh air and warm northern hospitality, you are bound to have the experience of a lifetime.

Located in the village of Qerret in Puka, guesthouse Devin offers a variety of such enjoyable activities, that time here seems to fly by. The lady of the house, Marije Shkjau, ensures that each guest gets the most out of this experience. In fact, it is quite easy to have the best of both worlds here as, at only 7.5 km away from the city of Puka, the guesthouse is both easily reachable and sufficiently secluded.

In this intimate family-owned guesthouse and farm, you can participate in a myriad activities, starting from the all-time favorite process of seasonal fruit-and-vegetable picking. For outdoor lovers, there are plenty of opportunities for hiking, horseback riding and cycling. The women of Qerret will also be very happy to introduce you to traditional embroidery techniques of this region, crocheting or sewing with wool.

The location of this guesthouse makes it an ideal point of departure for the exploration of the other fascinating surrounding sites. A hike toward Kaurr Cave (Shpella e Kaurrit) will take you in the direction of the gorgeous Shala River and Valbona Valley. The latter represent two of the most spectacular natural wonders in the entire country. There is plenty more beauty to be discovered around here such as the Castle of Dalmata, Kryezi Waterfall, Chestnut Forest in Puka, as well as the peaks in the villages of Qerret and Dush.

Aside from the abundance of natural beauty surrounding it, this guesthouse offers more than thirty artisanal, homemade products made by Marija and the “Women of Qerret Group.” Marija Shkjau, a teacher and agronomist by profession, has managed the Devin Guesthouse for over year, becoming, thus, an inspiring example of a multifaceted entrepreneurial Albanian woman who is paving the way for others in the region. Along with her husband, Riza, and their five daughters, Marija offers an authentic and wonderfully guided experience of village life.

As part of traditional northern hospitality, guests are fully immersed in the local life during their stay at Devin. They will enjoy fresh juices made from the farm’s fruits and vegetables and have the opportunity to learn to cook authentic traditional local recipes.

Some of the delicious homemade dishes you can try here are the chicken çervish (a thick, corn-based broth), qull me maze (polenta), flia (a type of Albanian pancake), leqenik (corn-bread, often made with spinach), and petulla (donut-like pastry) served with homemade jam. Last but definitely not least, the guesthouse offers truly cozy rooms and a comfortable atmosphere that makes the guests feel quite at home.

At Agritourism Devin, time loses its firm grip and, whether accompanied by family or friends, the stay will seem much shorter than it is, triggering the desire to return as soon as possible.
