Zadrima is perhaps the best-kept secret among locals as far as authentic, truly pleasurable escapes into nature go. Still very traditional and welcoming, this region is also becoming a hit among international tourists. Hylli i Dritës is one of the best guesthouses here, welcoming an incerasing number of guests in its wonderful space. Located on the hill of Troshan, this guesthouse offers views of some of the most awe-inspiring sunrises and sunsets. Only 15 km from Lezha, a stay here offers a wonderful meeting with history, as well.

The valley of Zadrima hides a wealth of historical and religious monuments that one must simply make time to explore. It is a wonderful opportunity for Fatmir Ndoj, the owner of this guesthouse, who simply loves taking his guests out into the spectacular nature and history of Zadrima. The Troshan Castle, the Church of Euphemia in Mount Vela, and the Church of St. Ndou are three of the most popular destinations. For those who prefer keeping it simple and staying in and around the guesthouse, there are plenty of things to go. Guests can explore the farm and the farm animals as well as the olive plantations. Plus, the gorgeous landscape around Hylli i Dritës lends itself to wonderful hikes.

Last but not least (perhaps most importantly!) Fatmir, also the head chef of the guesthouse’s kitchen, always guarantees a satisfying gastronomical experience. His special concoctions are an interweaving of traditional Albanian cuisine with Italian recipes and tastes. The new and exciting flavors he creates have drawn a high number of guests, many of whom pass by Troshan specifically for his delicious dishes.

The menu includes tender kid meat, locally made and preserved seasonal cheeses, cream-stuffed peppers, roasted chicken with stuffing, chicken porridge or the delicious jufka (traditional homemade pasta), among other offerings. Everything is made using only the freshest produce and meat of his own farm as well as from the area’s farmers.

In the five years that this guesthouse has opened its doors, the number of guests and visitors to Zadrima has risen. The cozy accommodation and contemporary design straddles that perfect balance between tradition and modernity, making the stay here an incredible, memorable pleasure.
