A country like Albania, where 70% of the surface is made of mountains, represents the perfect destination for skiing. But which ones are the best spots?

The Korab mountain range, located along Dibra’s highlands, culminates at Mount Korab. At 2764 meters above sea level, this is the highest peak in Albania and the 4th highest peak in the Balkans. The climb towards Korab starts in Radomira, a small village located at the foot of the mountain. Partly rugged and partly fully equipped, the area is very welcoming to both alpinism and traditional tourism.

The entire region of Korça has various places where one can ski. One of the very best however is located in Dardha Village. The Bigëll Ski Resort has 2 km of slopes available for skiing and snowboarding and 2 lifts to transport guests. The winter sports area is situated between the elevations of 1,585 and 1,663 m.

Dinaric / Albanian Alps

Located along the border of Serbia and Montenegro, the majestic alps, with their high limestone peaks, are an ideal location for the winter sport. The highest mountain of the range is Mt. Jezerca, at 2693 meters. The Accursed Mountains, also known as Prokletije, are the highest section of the Dinaric Alps with spectacular spots located in the valleys of Theth and Valbona. No ski lifts here but a a truly elevated and intimate skiing experience.

Shishtavec in Kukës

Shishtavec is located 1400 meters above sea level and about 30 km away from the northern city of Kukës. Blessed with a rich flora and fauna, water from both rivers and lakes, and hospitality, Shishtavec has also an ideal terrain for winter sports. Equipped with professional alpine guides, Shishtavec is one of the best-known villages in Albania for skiing with Novosejë being one of its best spots. 

Voskopoja in Korça

Located only 21 km (13 miles) away from Korça, Voskopoja is a favorite spot for winter sports, in particular skiing and snowboarding. It is surrounded by hills and forests and the entire area is elevated at an altitude of 1160 meters above sea level. The southern village is also known for its delicious cuisine and rich cultural heritage, having been a cultural center since 1330.
