The Kukës Peaks: An Adrenaline-Filled Hike

Kukës is blessed with one of the most stunning landscapes in the entire country with grandiose peaks, rich soil, and countless water sources that make for a spectacular hike.

The hike along the narrow paths of this area is an adrenaline-filled, unforgettable experience. Some favorite spots among tourists are the especially picturesque Shishtavec – Guri i Mëngjesit or Gjallica Peak. Visiting these may be one of the greatest introductions to the flora and fauna of northern Albania. While the hike can be done year-round, there is a special magic about experiencing the snow-filled caps in winter!

Another spectacularly rugged, untouched spot is Jezina Cave. This natural treasure of the Korab-Koritnik Nature Park, is located in the Vana Gorge (Gryka e Vanave), near Bele Village in Kukës. The hike is a bit challenging, but you will not regret taking it for a moment. What awaits at the end are the millions-of-years-old stalactite and stalagmite configurations that magically decorate the roof of the cave.

Some other destinations to keep in mind are the most popular ones of 2019: Skavica Canyon, Sheja Canyon in Bicaj, and the Canyon of the Çaje Gorge. All are part of the Korab-Koritnik Nature Park and all worth experiencing!

Well-worth mentioning are the cozy guesthouses in Shishtavec, famous for their hospitality and delicious authentic food they serve their guests. The rise of these wonderful guesthouses has proved to be one of the main ingredients in the success of Kukës as an attractive touristic destination. While the pristine nature was always there, the infrastructure has made it possible to spend as long as you wish among its spectacles.
